Restylane is a lip filler or dermal filler which enhances the volume of skin making it look younger and beautiful. As a person grows older and older, the skin starts showing sins of aging. These signs can be reduced to a significantly lower level through Restylane Los Angeles treatment. As an American renowned writer, Robert A. Heinlein said, “No woman ever ages beyond eighteen in her heart.” If you are someone who wants to look as young as her heart, Restylane is your dream come true.

When the skin ages, it starts to lose its volume, showing noticeable wrinkles, fine lines and discoloration. The clinical experts came up with a non-surgical solution to these problems which is known as Restylane.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a stabilized hyaluronic acid used for soft tissue augmentation and smoothing out wrinkles and folds in the smile lines around the mouth, depressions at the angles of mouth, marionette lines, frown lines and depressed scars. It is most commonly used for lip injections. Restylane can also be used to contour the lateral tail of the brows and plump lips. Restylane is ideal for tear trough areas to eliminate the appearance of dark circles under the eye. Treatments typically last between 6 to 12 months.

It is an injectable filler that is composed of hyaluronic acids used for the injections and filling of wrinkles around the mouth. It is used as lip fillers. Restylane was one of the first hyaluronic acid fillers introduced in the US and by 2010 there had been over 11 million treatments worldwide. Restylane is composed of non-animal derived hyaluronic acid and is FDA approved for the injections of parenthesis lines around the mouth, which are known as nasolabial folds. Restylane is the only hyaluronic acid filler that is approved for injection of the lips.

What is hyaluronic acid and why is it important?

The skin produces a substance called hyaluronic acid which helps in retaining the necessary hydro level of the skin tissues and helps in maintaining a healthy-looking fresh skin. When a person grows old, the ability of the skin to generate hyaluronic acid decreases, resulting in the skin to lose its elasticity, become dry and have prominent wrinkles and marks.

The hyaluronic acid is essential for the skin to glow and look younger. The acid keeps the skin hydrated making it appear to be smoother, fresh and wrinkle free. Once the acid growth decreases, the signs become visible on the skin as fine lines and wrinkles and dried, dropped down lips.

How does Restylane work?

The hyaluronic acid is injected into the skin through a dermal filler, which helps the skin in maintaining the required water level, increasing its volume and elasticity and resulting in smooth, natural youthful skin.

The Restylane Los Angeles treatment should be done by a certified doctor, who injects the substance into the skin after giving local anesthesia to the patient. The patient may experience a little discomfort when the injections are inserted into the affected areas. The procedure takes about 30 minutes depending on the extent of the treatment.

Restylane helps in the reduction of laugh lines around the nose and mouth, plumping of lips and lifting of cheeks.

Where can Restylane be used?

There are several types of Restylane treatments, each used for a specific part of the body. The purpose of every type of Restylane is similar, which is to eliminate the aging symptoms from the skin and turning it into smooth and naturally beautiful.

Restylane can be used in various facial areas to correct:

  • Wrinkles around the nose and mouth, commonly consisting of laugh lines or smile lines
  • Dried or dropped lips and used for boosting or plumping of lips
  • Lifting of cheeks and increasing the volume of face
  • The dark circles around the eye, to reduce discoloration and to tone the skin color

Benefits of Restylane

The non-surgical dermal filler injection has many benefits, some of these are discussed below:

  1. No artificial look – Restylane procedure does not result in an artificial, plastic looking skin structure. Instead it gives you a natural looking, younger and smoother skin. The treatment does not make your skin look like it has gone under a plastic surgery. It gives a subtle fresh look, which is one of the main reason people choose Restylane over other cosmetic treatments.
  2. Lasts longer – The duration of Restylane is fairly longer than other dermal fillers. It lasts up to 6 months, which is more than the life span of most dermal fillers. Restylane makes you look wrinkle-free for a longer period of time.
  3. Affordable – Restylane is an affordable anti-aging solution in comparison to other cosmetic treatments. It does not cost you a fortune and gives you results similar to expensive treatments.
  4. Less prone to allergies – As the dermal filler injections utilize the hyaluronic acid which does not have animal origins, the treatment is suitable for people having animal allergies.
  5. No recovery time required – Restylane is a minor procedure and requires no recovery time. The patients can resume their daily routine immediately after the treatment. There is no down time after the treatment is done.

Types of Restylane

Restylane treatment consists of four different types. Each of which is discussed below:

  • Restylane Lyft (Perlane)
Restylane Lyft, also known as Perlane, is similar to Restylane with hyaluronic acid used as the filler to remove wrinkles and make the skin surface to be smoother. The difference in Perlane is that of the particle size, it is greater than the size of Restylane hence is beneficial for treating the skin in depth. The substance spread deeper into the skin reducing the depressions and deep scars.
Restylane Lyft is helpful in case of thick skin, the substance filled in Restylane Lyft is concentrated than others, therefore it can also be used to create a base for less denser fillers
  • Restylane Silk
Restylane Silk is a type of Restylane dermal filler which is commonly used for area around the mouth and for plumping of lips. It has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of lips.
Restylane Silk contains smaller particles as compared to Restylane, making it easy for the substance to spread into the skin. The results of Restylane Silk are so natural and real that it is hard to distinguish the area where fillers have been injected.
  • Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne
The Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are the most advanced types of the dermal fillers, having the tendency to shift with the expressions of the person. The hyaluronic acid used in these fillers is more flexible, changing its shape in accordance with the expressions.
The difference between Refyne and Defyne is the balance of its adjustability to support the changes. Restylane Refyne has more flexibility than Restylane Defyne. Both having ability to adjust with the change of expressions.

How long does Restylane last?

Restylane typically lasts between 5 to 6 months.

How much does Restylane cost?

There are number of dermal fillers available to be used as a treatment for getting wrinkle-less skin. Juvéderm is also a dermal filler, using hyaluronic acid as a filler to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the skin.

Although both fillers, Juvéderm and Restylane have same main ingredient to treat the skin volume and water deficiency, the difference can be seen in the areas where fillers are being used. For sunken or fallen areas, Juvéderm may not be your best choice however it is ideal for larger areas as it spreads out giving a fuller look to the skin.

Both the treatments can also be compared on the basis of their cost. The Juvéderm fillers are more expensive than the Restylane injections however the life of Juvéderm may last up to 2 years making it affordable in the long run. Where are some of the typical areas that are injected with Restylane?

Restylane is injected into folds and wrinkles on the face in order to smooth them out. Dr. Behnam uses very advanced techniques when using Restylane.

Parenthesis Lines

Restylane can be injected into the parenthesis lines around the mouth, also known as nasolabial folds. As we age, we lose fat, muscle, and bone around the mouth thus creating the folds around the mouth. Restylane is used to fill in these areas of mass loss and smooth out the wrinkles to give patient a younger looking appearance.

Lips

Restylane is the only filler that is FDA approved for injection into the lips in order to give a younger, more youthful, and plumier looking lips. Caution should be taken to avoid giving patients a duck-like-lips by overfilling it. Dr. Behnam takes a conservative approach to filling lips. There are three important rules that you must obey when injecting lips:

Upper to lower lip ratio

The lower lip should always be 2/3rd the size of the upper lip. This natural ratio must be maintained when injecting lips. If the upper and lower lips are exactly the same size it gives the patient a duck like look and it is very unnatural.

Vermilion borders

The vermilion borders of the lips are usually effaced as we age. Older patients who want lip injections, Dr. Behnam typically injects the vermilion border and this gives the patient a younger looking appearance of the lip even without even injecting the muscles of lip themselves.

Philtrum columns

Some patients lack columns on the upper lip known as philtrum columns. These columns are very important in portraying a younger looking face. Even younger individual sometimes lack this philtrum column. So, it is very important that when we are injecting lips that we should not omit this area.

Lateral Eyebrows

Restylane can also be injected into the lateral eyebrow area in order to lift it. This method can be combined with Botox or Dysport on the same day to help achieve an eyebrow lift. Botox or Dysport should be injected first into the lateral eyebrow and then Restylane.

Acne scars

Restylane can be injected into depressed acne scars to fill them in. The result is instantaneous and it has a very high satisfaction rate with patients.

Tear Trough

Restylane can be injected in the tear trough area in order to fill in the area. The tear trough area is a natural groove between the side of nose as well as the rim of the orbital bone. Basically, this is the hollow area under the eye. As we age, we lose fat in this area and this natural groove becomes more hollow. This leads to hollowness underneath the eyelids and give impression of dark circles. By injecting this area, not only does the hollowness improve, but the baggy lower eyelids become less visible as well. Thus patients look less tired.

Every face is different and every face requires a customized injection plan. An injection for one person might not necessarily work for another person. Also, based upon Dr. Behnam’s expertise and experience, there are some fillers that might be better suited for some parts of the face and not others. For instance, Radiesse and Sculptra are better for cheek augmentations while Restylane is better to fill in the hollowness under the eyes. Thus, to figure out what your face might need, please see Dr. Behnam for an evaluation and recommendations. Remember, not all fillers are created equal and not all fillers will look good in everybody, so choosing the right filler for your concerns is the most important part of the entire process. Can I combine Restylane with other fillers like Radiesse or Sculptra?

Yes. Restylane can be combined with other fillers like Radiesse or Sculptra. The reason is that Restylane is placed in the superficial skin whereas Radiesse and Sculptra are placed deeper in the skin. Given the fact that the plane of injection is different, these fills should not interfere with one another.

Can I use Perlane instead of Restylane?

Yes, depending on the severity of wrinkle and fold. Both Perlane and Restylane are stabilized hyaluronic acids. The difference is that Perlane is a thicker material and is intended for deeper folds. Perlane also lasts longer. Please ask Dr. Behnam to see which one is better for your concern.

Can Restylane be used to fill in forehead lines?

Yes. Restylane can be used to smooth out forehead wrinkles. Restylane works better when used with Botox or Dysport on the forehead.

Can Restylane be used to fill in Crow’s feet?

Although Restylane can be used in the crow’s feet area, it can give a lumpy look, thus Dr. Behnam refrains from using Restylane in this area. The best options for the crow’s feet include Botox and Dysport.

What is Restylane-L?

Restylane-L is Restylane that is pre-mixed with Licodain. This helps making the injections more tolerable.
