Botox injections are one of the most common techniques for facial rejuvenation nowadays, made even more popular thanks to Hollywood celebrities and other public figures. While Botox is thought to be one of the best minimally invasive treatments available today, there are several types of Botox that can differ from each other in terms of how they perform. This ultimately means that the results will depend on the type of treatment received, and factors like injection approach, parts of the body that are injected, etc.
Types of Botox Cosmetic Treatments
All Botox treatments are aimed at enhancing the appearance of your face, there are four different types of Botox treatments. Those types are Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Myobloc. They all contain the botulinum toxin type A ingredient, except for Myobloc, which contains botulinum type B.
What distinguishes them is their formulation, as this will determine its dosage, effects how quickly the results can be seen and how the product spreads. The following are the main types of Botox treatments for facial features.
Botox – This product contains an accompanying protein and is more expensive and can last longer than Dysport
Dysport – Contains similar accompanying protein but in smaller quantities and is less expensive and functions quicker than Botox.
Xeomin – Does not contain any accompanying protein and known to last longer than Botox. Due to its purity, it cannot become resistant easily.
Myobloc – This is mostly used to persons that have become resistant to Botox and Dysport.
Botox Types
The different types of Botox are known by several names, such as Botox, Dysport, and Myobloc, which are all injectable Botulinum Toxin (Botox) products used for reducing wrinkles, which means that they ultimately work the same way. In the following sections, we are going to take a closer look at these different types of Botox and how they differ from each other.
1. Botox
Traditionally, Botox is a neurotoxin made from a bacterium that can cause botulism. Hence, it is also called Botulinum Toxin. Among distinct types of Botox, Botulinum toxin injections work by blocking nerve signals to the muscles of a specific area. Suppose you want to remove fine lines just above your eyebrows. The surgeon will inject Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that forces muscles to contract above the eyebrow region. It often takes 7 to 14 days to notice changes in your appearance; however, these changes can last up to four-month or even sometimes longer. Other than the aesthetics part, Botox is also helpful in treating chronic migraine, severe underarm sweating, cervical dystonia, and an overactive bladder.
2. Dysport
Dysport is a botulinum toxin type A and is among the most important types of Botox – specifically formulated to inhibit muscle contraction. Dysport injections consisting of concentrated botulinum toxin are used in cosmetology and the prevention of wrinkles and folds (the application is for therapeutic purposes and is not intended to cure illness). This preparation works faster and is less expensive compared to other types of Botox. Dysport effectively eliminates horizontal wrinkles and crow’s feet by relaxing tone in the muscles beneath the face. It works by interfering with how different movements contribute to wrinkles. Other types of Botox do the same thing; however, the compound’s mechanism is slightly different.
3. Xeomin
Among many types of Botox, Xeomin is a sub-unit of botulinum toxin known as incobotulinum toxin A. This highly effective neurotoxin works to weaken the muscle and eliminate undesired wrinkles, especially on the forehead and around the eyes. It is often recommended for patients who are not suitable for Botox treatment. The toxin removes the muscle tone and treats the symptoms of dermatological conditions, including acne, to alleviate wrinkles and enhance the look of a person’s skin. The effects of Xeomin last slightly longer than other types of Botox injections, making it therapeutic and easier compared to Botox.
4. Myobloc
The main active ingredient in Myobloc, which is one of the important types of Botox, is a botulinum toxin that not only removes wrinkles allowing your skin to not sag for a longer time, but also treats uncontrolled blinking, muscle spasms, and migraines. It is particularly effective in treating neuropathic facial pain. Furthermore, the active ingredient in Myobloc, unlike other types of Botox, doesn’t allow the release of acetylcholine, which is responsible for contracting muscles. This makes myobloc perfect in preventing the skin from becoming loose, especially when it is used for dermal aging caused by alopecia and atrophy.
Types of Botox Injections
These were some of the most common types of Botox that are highly effective and can help people achieve a younger, healthier, and more glowing look.
Botox treatments are becoming popular among people of all ages because of their incredible effects in combination with great safety and ease of the procedure. Botox for men is also becoming more common. Administered by professionals like dermatologists, surgeons, and plastic surgeons, Botox injections are one of the most popular choices for patients seeking anti-aging effects that are pain-free, easy, and convenient.
