What is Coolsculpting and how does it work?

Coolsculpting is a safe, non-surgical procedure to freeze the fat. Coolsculpting uses a method called cryptolysis. Cryolipolysis is a medical treatment used to destroy fat cells by freezing. The functional principle is the controlled application of cooling, within the temperature range of +5 to −5 °C, for the non-invasive, localized reduction of fat deposits, in order to reshape the contours of the body. The degree of exposure to cooling causes the apoptosis (cell death) of subcutaneous fat tissue, without apparent damage to the overlying skin.

Who performs the CoolSculpting procedure?

Dr. Behnam is the one who assess, evaluates and determines the treatment plan. One of the most common mistakes that is done with CoolSculpting is that a non-physician evaluates the areas to be treated. However, Dr. Behnam uses his expertise to look at the skin in a 3-d way, evaluating the best way to apply the CoolSculpting application. This allows Dr. Behnam to apply the device on the correct area for the maximum improvement.

Is CoolSculpting painful?

Typically not. However some patients can experience some stinging and burning during the procedure for the first 10 minutes, and then the area becomes numb for the rest of the procedure. After the procedure, some patients may experience numbness which may last up to a few weeks.

How often can I get CoolSculpting? Every 2 months, 3 months?

A month is typically the minimum you should wait between procedures. Dr. Behnam usually recommends 2 months between treatments.

How much improvement can I get per session?

Each procedure generally sees a reduction in 20-25% of the fat.

Does CoolSculpting require any surgeries?

No. This is a non-surgical procedure that reduces the fat by freezing them. There are no cutting involved.

Are the results permanent?

Yes. The results are permanent.

What happens to the fat that is frozen?

Once the fat is frozen, the body removes and excretes it out.

Is there downtime after Coolsculpting?

There is typically no downtime, which makes the procedure so popular. Some may experience a sensation of numbness or tingling in the treated areas. After a CoolSculpting treatment you will be able to return to work and normal activities right away as there are typically no signs a procedure was performed.

How many times do I have to do the Coolsculpting procedure?

Typically, patients do the procedure twice in each area, however everyone is different and you should consult with Dr. Behnam for evaluation. With each session, there is usually 20 to 25% improvement in the treated area.

When can I resume normal activities, like exercise?

There is no downtime, you can resume activities such as exercise immediately after.

What are the side effects?

Swelling, bruising, numbness and tenderness. However most symptoms resolve within a few weeks after the procedure.

Can I bruise?

It depends on the person. But yes, bruising is a possibility.

Are there any restrictions afterward, like flying?

No. You can resume normal activities including flying immediately afterwards.

Do I have to do anything beforehand?

No, there is nothing required of you before the procedure.
